Welcome. Let us recognise the past, act in the presence and build a better future
The Junction Community Centre its Council and community acknowledge that for countless years Aboriginal people have lived in harmony with the lands on which our centre sits. The Junction Community Centre acknowledges that our community centre is located on the traditional lands of the Kaurna people and that we recognise Kaurna as the traditional custodians of Kaurna country.
We acknowledge that the Aboriginal people have a unique culture with a deep and abiding relationship to country, and that developing a universal respect for country lies at the heart of reconciliation.
We acknowledge that Aboriginal people have suffered great injustice – with loss to their land, languages, culture, heritage and community.
We acknowledge that Aboriginal people have demonstrated great resilience though continue to experience disadvantage, disrespect and lack of understanding in their daily lives, which must be addressed for reconciliation to be advanced.
The Junction Community Centre aspires and commits to working with the Kaurna and other Aboriginal communities to implement practical and meaningful measures, by:
- Value the knowledge and experience of Aboriginal people past and present.
- Maintain centre culture which values and respects Aboriginal people and their culture.
- Ensure and expand centre participation and relationships involving Aboriginal people
- Facilitate opportunity for Aboriginal in centre service deliveries and programs
